Stardust - Nezha Hablouj

It's past midnight, the sheep have flown to another person’s field while I keep tossing in my bed and my eyes refuse to shut.
Insomnia, my dear friend, has once again come to knock on my door.
Exhausted, I surrender to my fate, a large cardigan draped over my shoulders and a cup of warm tea in my hand. I sit by the window and watch the beautiful scenery my room offers.
The calmness surrounding the night made me forget all the fatigue. I wasn't sad nor angry. I was surprisingly glad to be awake.
I was mesmerized by the spectacle taking place in front of my bare eyes.
The stars shined brightly against the gloomy darkness mimicking drops of gold.
The moon's magnificent glow seeped through the cloudy sky bringing a sense of relief to my heart.
It strangely felt like the sky was sending me a message reassuring me and proving to me there are countless fascinating aspects of life I have yet to discover. I could feel it in my bones; This isn’t my final destination. This is only a mere stop before I reach my true happiness.

The last confession

Parents are forgotten gods. My first act of worship was not a prayer but irrevocable love for my parents. It was easy to cast parents as gods when they were your eyes to a new life. The slow movement of your mouth as your teeth grind food, the small steps that you take confidently in a stride now, the smile that goes too wide because there is no shame in showing a moment of joy: all of my parents’ teachings live through me. I was their New Testament, their Vedas, their Torah, and so were they to me. Their voices wrestled in my head at every decision. What would my parents do? In moments of fear, I reached for the safe blanket of parental security to take cover in. Their ideas seemed so big and inconceivable. My inexperience ascended them to the pedestal of gods. I sought their blessing as earnestly as any believer. Heaven was the small smile of approval. Hell was the disappointment concealed behind indifference. It was important to maintain this balance, albeit impossible; my brain fou...
