Final resting, false devotion Poppies A field of poppies A vast field of beautiful flowers Where I can rest  Where we can both rest  I want to lay down there with you  Feel the wind gently brushing against our skin Birds singing about love and the upcoming spring About the wonders of life Where you and I sadly don't belong I want to rest until I decompose For my body to become a fertilizer for these flowers to bloomI For the earth to devour me whole  To use me as it pleases Itching to give my existence some meaning  If that means i can finaly rest  So that we both can find peace Fatima Zahra Bouchrif  

**الخريف الأول** أربعة حيطان تتكئ على بعضها البعض لتشكل في الأركان زوايا حادة أكثر من كونها قائمة، ولا تملك لنفسها ما يشد أزرها إلا سارية واحدة في المنتصف، فتظهر مظهرًا تعِبًا مُعابًا. لكن ما إن تغادر الشمس خدرها وتغزل أول غزلها، حتى تلبسه هذه الغرفة الكئيبة، فتَبُثَّ فيها من نور الحياة وبهجتها ما تبثه قطعة الحلوى في فم الطفل الصغير، وذكر الإله في فؤاد الشيخ الضرير. يستيقظ هو، عتيق الوجع، يابس الجذع، يذوي مع كل خطوة يخطوها نحو النافذة. يفتح علبة السجائر ليدخنها كلها، يرمي بنفسه في براثن الموت ليحيا. يستنشق الدخان ملء رئتيه، وتكاد عظامه الهزيلة تطِقُّ من انتفاخ صدره في محاولة يائسة أخيرة أن يستنشق الوجود، أن يمتصه، أن يحسه… لكنه منوّم ومشلول، غائب ومُغيَّب في أغوار الألم. أطلق الهاتف رنينه للمرة الثالثة وسط ضباب غرفته ورأسه، ثم أجاب: – ألو؟ – يا ابني، يا سعيد، مَرّ أسبوع ولم تزرني. مُرّ عليّ هذا الصباح، فقد حضرت كل الوصفات التي تحبها. وهذه بداية الخريف، وتحتاج إلى إفطار دافئ ورفقة. مُرّ عليّ ودعني أطمئن ...

From the shadowed underground, where it lays unseen.  The hidden one is drawn outward, lifted by the small in-between. Little as they seem,  with their watchful eyes. They carry the darkness,  towards the skies. Mira MLIJI

Memories are wonderful things, if we don't have to deal with the past. They never truly end as long as we're alive. They haunt us, suffocate us, reminding us every second, how foolish and naive we once were to trust wolves in sheep’s clothing. They are the price we pay to finally see the world for what it is. We like to think we're evolving, but the truth is we never change that much. We grow older, sharper, quieter, but the same trusting heart still beats, the only residual of the person we used to be. We recognize the traps now, yet we still wander toward them. Different faces, different names, but the wound stays the same. An endless cycle, a curse that doesn’t seem to break. There was a time when we believed kindness was enough, that somehow it would find its way back to us, that loyalty would be returned, that justice would be served. كتب جبران خليل جبران: "يقال إن النهر يرتجف خوفًا قبل أن يصب في البحر. ينظر إلى الوراء، إلى الطريق الذي سلكه من قمم الجبال، الطريق الطويل المتعرج الذي يعبر الغابات والقرى. وأمامه يرى محيطًا شاسعًا، حتى أن دخوله يبدو وكأنه اختفاء أبدي. لكن لا سبيل آخر. فالنهر لا يستطيع العودة..." أجدني كالنهر، أينما أولي وجهي يستوقفني ما أمر به، لكنني أهاب ما يحادي المحيط من مناطق مفتوحة دون أمد، لا تمثل إلا نهاية مسار ولا تُبلغ إلا مرة واحدة، فهي بداية النهاية، تدخلها فتُفقد، والأكيد أنك لن تعود منها فتولد، بعدما ألفت موضع نشأتك و بداية رحلتك، بتعقيداته, تحدياته و انعراجاته. دورة حياة الكائنات واحدة، تنزل من السماء كقطرة، كبذرة، كعلقة، سمها ما شئت، تبدأ رحلتها كأقرانها من منبع واحد، وتجعل الوسط يحتها وتحته، تصير القطرة سيلا، تصير العلقة جنينا، وتصير البذرة برعما ينمو حسب ظروف موقعه والتضاريس التي نشأ فيها، فإما أن يكون السيل بطيئا، هادئا أو أن يكون جارفا، لكنه دائما عذب وجار. فالمرء ابن بيئته. قد ينسى النهر منبعه وإن لم يتغير، لكنه لا ينسى مساره حتى لو تغير، فالمسار واحد والطريق واحد، تمر منه ...

Why would anyone inhale smoke willingly? Her mom always asked her that, her scolding mellowing down to a few quips here and there. She took a breath through the cigarette she had nursed for a few minutes, because the break was ending, and the people were screaming, and the night was long.
